Summer Camp Meals: What Your Kid Eats During the Season!
Many parents are worried about the food their kids eat during summer. When school’s out for summer, lots of candy and soda interrupt the healthy eating routines.
Experts indicate that “the summer months may be a critical period for excess weight gain.”
Eating healthy is the source of well-being. Children’s wholesome and delicious nutrition is vital for a productive and happy summer camp. In Guaikinima, every meal is a ceremony where campers learn about nutrition, international recipes, and positive eating habits.
The importance of flexible summer meals

Our cooks make sure your kid has healthy snacks available throughout the day. We work with professional nutritionists to structure a delicious three-meal balanced menu.
Camp food service is not just about the food but also the process. Camp food service professionals should be familiar with USDA guidelines and requirements for school food service programs.

Camps abide by laws to provide meals that meet the highest quality standards, which include minimum amounts of protein, carbohydrates, and other nutrients such as vitamins A and C.
Our menu staples include whole grains, fruits, protein, vegetables, and low-fat dairy products. Snacks are also low in sugar, salts, and fat.
A Closer Look At Our summer meals
- Breakfast: A balanced breakfast with fruit, whole grains (such as warm oatmeal or whole wheat toast), and low-fat milk or yogurt. We always put on top of fresh fruit, such as strawberries or bananas, over baked goods as an alternative carbohydrate source that provides vitamin C, potassium, and folic acid. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends limiting sugary cereals for kids ages 2 to 5 because they don’t have enough essential nutrients.

- Lunch and dinner: In general, lunches should include foods from all four food groups—vegetables/fruits; grains—bread/pasta/rice; milk alternatives including calcium sources such as cheese or yogurt; meat alternatives such as beans/legumes.
