Have the best outdoor experience with Camp Guaikinima! This time, with the whole family on a road trip to North Carolina. A road trip with your kids, your spouse and any other member of the family in a fun tour with the experts of Guaikinima. Imagine, going hiking to the mountains with the kids, fresh air, incredible views, lots of exercise, visit 3 of the most popular parks in NC and the great experience in Asheville. And most important is that this experience will be guided by our staff who are experts in outdoors and activities for the kids and the whole family.
We are going hiking!! That means walking on natural trails surrounded by trees, where you can catch the fresh air of the mountain, exercise, get to the top to see spectacular views or amazing waterfalls. Our guides are going to make it super fun with games, finding clues on the trail, making it more interesting and challenging for the kids.
This is one of the best road trips to North Carolina, from wherever you are, the road leads us in the direction of Lake Norman as the first stop. If traveling by plane, arrive at the Charlotte airport, rent a car and drive to the house in Lake Norman, approximately 1 hour from the airport. Check in is from 4:00 pm.
DAY 1
This day you will arrive, from wherever your starting point of the trip will be, to the house where we will stay in Lake Norman. If traveling by plane, arrive at the Charlotte airport, rent a car and drive to the house in Lake Norman, approximately 1 hour from the airport. Check in starts at 4:00 pm. If you decide to travel by car, you should estimate the distance from your starting point to the house in Lake Norman and consider spending a night in a hotel*. If this is your option, you must leave the day before, on Saturday the 18th so that you can arrive at the house in Lake Norman on the 19th at 4pm. *The night of March 18th is not included in the package.
We will all arrive at the house at the end of the day, the guides will help everyone get settled in their rooms and then we’ll start the activities for the kids.
7:30pm. Dinner will be served catering style and we will end the day with a campfire and s’mores.
DAY 2
8:30am. Breakfast will be served, which will give us all the energy for our next walk.
9:30am. Departure to the first park. The guides will give you directions to the first park we will visit in NC. CROWDERS MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK, 1 hour drive.
11:00am. We will meet at the entrance of the park and our guides will give the group all the instructions about the walk such as: information about the park, length of the trail, what to bring, safety precautions, etc. The first walk will be approximately 2 hours round trip.
11:15am. We will start the walk along one of the trails.
1:15pm. We’ll meet in front of the lake and enjoy a delicious picnic lunch.
2:15pm. We will have a round of games after lunch.
2:45pm. We will start the second walk with a scavenger hunt activity.
5:00pm. Departure from the park to our home in Lake Norman.
6:00pm. Arrival at Lake Norman – The guides will do activities with the children, while the parents enjoy some free time.
7:30pm. Dinner will be served catering style and we will end the day with a campfire and s’mores.
DAY 3
8:30am. Breakfast will be served, which will give us all the energy for our next walk.
9:30am. Departure to the second park, SOUTH MOUNTAIN STATE PARK
10:30am. Arrival at South Mountain State Park. Our guides will give the group all the instructions about the walk such as: information about the park, the length of the trail, what to bring, safety precautions, etc.
11:00am. We will start the first walk of 1 hour and a half round trip.
12:30pm. Picnic lunch will be served.
1:30pm. We will start the second moderate level trail of 2 and a half hours. Those who prefer can stay at the base around the river and enjoy a dip and go for walks.
4:00pm. The whole group will meet at the base to continue enjoying the areas of the park and prepare for the return home.
5:00.pm Departure to the house, approximately 50 minutes.
6:00pm. Arrival at Lake Norman – guides will head to the lake for some fun games.
7:30pm. Dinner will be catering style and we will end the day with a talent show night organized by our guides.
DAY 4
8:30am. Enjoy breakfast overlooking the lake before saying goodbye to Lake Norman. You must pack to go to the third park and then to our next accommodation at Ashville cottages.
9:30am. Get ready to leave for DUPONT STATE RECREATIONAL FOREST, for a spectacular visit to 3 waterfalls. The walk will be 3 miles round trip, approximately 2 hours.
11:30am. Arrival at the park. Our guides will give the group all the instructions about the walk such as: information about the park, the length of the trail, what to bring, safety precautions.
12:00pm. we will start the first walk to the first waterfall. Then we will continue to the second and then to the third. After admiring such impressive waterfalls, we start the walk back to the base to enjoy a delicious lunch.
2:30pm. Lunch
3:30pm. The guides will do a game activity for the children.
4:15pm. We will head to our next lodging in charming mountain style homes with natural forest views located near Asheville.
Exit to Asheville Cottages. The journey will be approximately 50 minutes.
5:30pm. The guides will help everyone get settled in their houses and then they will head to the forest to have fun with games.
7:30pm. Dinner will be served delivery style in each house and we will end the day with a closing campfire in the field in front of the houses where the guides will do a closing and farewell activity.
DAY 5
8:30am. A breakfast basket will be delivered to each home for the family to enjoy or if you prefer you have the option to drive to Asheville 16 minutes away and enjoy an a la carte breakfast, then everyone can explore the city of Asheville and its different activities such as kayaks, canoes, SUPs or rafts at the start of a beautiful seven mile float down the French Broad River. Enjoy some time on your own in the city, enjoy a farm-to-table meal for lunch and dinner. Lunch and dinner are on your own.
DAY 6
DEPARTURE. Prepare for your journey back home. Say goodbye to this area of majestic beauty, until you return again! Check out is at 10:00am. Families who travel by plane must start their return to the Charlotte airport. And for families traveling by car, we suggest the Asheville – Jacksonville or Savannah route, then to your final destination.
